This YouTube video highlights personal stories from homeowners in the Austin area where home buyouts were offered by the local government in order to mitigate future flood loses.
I'm particularly interested in how GIS and various modeling tools are used by communities to plan for flooding events. What capabilities are available and what data sources are leveraged? How is accuracy determined?
Realizing that flood preparedness and response is a complex topic, I would like to see a conversation launched regarding IoT technology that could be used to increase awareness with regard to weather and flooding conditions.
